Being Born-Again is not just about accepting Christ, saying a sinner’s prayer and attending a church. It’s more than performing ministries or reading your bible. It means you live a new life – a life that defies the norms of this worldly society and goes against the walk of majority.

Once I had a bus ride and got caught in a traffic jam. To my surprise, the bus made a turn away from the right lane and drove its way on the opposite lane! It was a crafty move but he was able to get away with it by looking for alternate routes to arrive at our destination. I was not in agreement with what he did, but the fact that I managed to reach where I need to be made me appreciate that counterflow.

I am not advising you to disobey rules to go against the flow. I just found it fitting to compare that clever move to emphasize the impact of making a difference for the faith amidst the common people that just come and go in this world-people who might just be waiting for that breakthrough, and that can be through you.

Paul urged the Roman believers not just to offer their lives to be pleasing before God but to “no longer conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed with the renewing of your mind” (Romans 12:2). It clearly shows that the way of this world is not the way the Lord wants us to take but being in this world we should watch out how we journey in this earth where we should consider ourselves strangers.

However, some Christians, in their plight to win the world to Christ, mix in and worse, compromise with it, hoping to win some over. This may work for some, miraculously. But the risk of being dragged back to worldly living is greater and just as Apostle Peter said, to their dismay, “If they have escaped the corruption of the world by knowing our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and are again entangled in it and are overcome, they are worse off at the end than they were at the beginning.” (1 Peter 2:20)

We want to reach the world and show them the transforming love of Christ. But how will we lead them to Him if we won’t show that we are new creations, who have already let go of the old and have been made new by His power?

I once heard that fish in the ocean, for their quest for food can pursue the way opposite the current though they find it difficult, even danger0us. But they know what they are up to and they know what need to survive the current. But if you see fish that go with the flow, it only means one thing – they’re …

If you want your Christian life to be truly alive and you really want to show others that Christ is alive in you, I have this simple piece of advice, don’t be afraid to counterflow.
